Rural Broadband Initiative

REC is powering game-changing solutions. For decades, your Cooperative has constructed and maintained an electric distribution system to serve over 177,000 connections across portions of 22 Virginia counties. In 2021, REC announced exciting broadband partnerships with local internet service providers. In 2023, the first REC members were connected to high speed internet. Make-ready construction is enabling REC to upgrade its electric system at a much faster pace while also enabling REC and its partners to build a fiber network bringing broadband to unserved and underserved communities.
