The electric industry is experiencing unprecedented technological advancement. Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) focused on the technological needs and expectations of its member-owners through innovative energy solutions that help members reduce and manage their energy use.
Peter Muhoro has been selected to fill the newly created position of Vice President of Strategy and Technology. Muhoro will be responsible for developing and monitoring long-term strategies related to REC's technology systems and new service offerings to the membership. Strategies developed under his leadership will include a technology strategy that addresses not only the Cooperative's needs of today, but more importantly, the information, distributed generation, clean energy, emerging technologies and advanced electrification needs of tomorrow.

Muhoro is an accomplished electric utility executive with over 15 years of experience in the energy industry. In his most recent role as Vice President of Strategic Industry Research and Analysis at National Rural Utilities Finance Corporation (CFC), Muhoro led research activities, provided strategic leadership, and consulted with electric cooperative leadership and board members on trends, technologies and the future of electric cooperatives. A few of his most recent career accomplishments include:
- Leading strategies to deploy distributed energy resources within at cooperatives
- Advancing use of data analytics and technologies that lead to high process improvements and increased member satisfaction
- Developing and implementing low interest financing programs for consumer members to access for the use of solar, storage, energy efficiency and electric vehicle charging
- Serving as an National Rural Electric Cooperatives of America (NRECA) advisor and subject matter expert on technologies, renewable energy and micro-grids, while also leading efforts for grant-awarded projects helping to advance electric cooperative systems and the electric grid
- Serving as the lead on multiple multi-million-dollar grants awarded for energy and environmental quality programs, including programs such as the NRECA Solar Utility Network Deployment Acceleration (SUNDA), which helped electric cooperatives find pathways to deploying solar, and several other clean energy programs.
Peter holds a Ph. D in Applied Physics with a focus on energy policy and a Master's of Science in Applied Physics, both from the University of Michigan, as well as a Bachelor's of Science in Physics and Mathematics from Hampton University.
