Reliability, affordability, storm response and member value guided the conversation June 24 during REC's second Power Hour telephone town hall of 2026. The call gave members across REC's service territory the opportunity to hear updates and ask questions directly of the Cooperative's President and CEO, John Hewa.
The event automatically dialed member-owners, inviting them to join live, stay informed and participate in the conversation.
Hewa opened the call by addressing several timely topics, including recent storm response, reliability investments, rising wholesale power costs, REC's Summer Savings Program, broadband expansion, data centers and the Cooperative's continued focus on member value.
He also shared that REC's Board of Directors approved returning $10 million in capital credits to eligible members, which will appear as cashback credits on July electric bills.
Board Chair Christopher Shipe joined the call to remind members about the upcoming 2026 director elections. The election process opens July 1, and members are encouraged to designate their proxy by July 31. REC's virtual annual meeting will be held on Aug. 5.
"Your participation in the proxy designation process shapes REC's direction and builds accountability," said Shipe. "Your vote truly matters."
The majority of the evening was driven by member questions, with topics ranging from Valley Link transmission projects and data centers to solar power, time-of-use rates, underground lines, reliability and future generation needs.
"Together, we're not just keeping the lights on," Hewa said. "We are working with you, with our employees and with our board of directors to build a stronger, smarter cooperative for generations to come."
