Rappahannock Electric Cooperative Volunteers Collect 27 Bags of Litter in Louisa County
Thursday | October 9, 2025

A team of 14 Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) volunteers spent the morning of Sept. 12 clearing litter along 3.6 miles of Fredericks Hall Road in Louisa County, filling 27 bags as part of the Adopt-a-Highway program and a partnership with local nonprofit, LouisaClean.

The effort builds on a yearlong commitment by REC employees to improve the roadside environment.

Since first adopting this section of road, the REC teams have been on litter patrol three times since last fall.

“This stretch of road had been neglected and needed a thorough clean up,” said Jody Korman, treasurer of LouisaClean. “We completed over 70 bags on our first clean up last fall and over 30 bags in the spring. Our goal is to have fewer bags each time.”

With 27 bags filled by the REC team on Sept. 12, that goal is on track.

“It has been rewarding to see that our efforts are paying off because each time we go out there we collect fewer bags of litter,” said Tracy Woods, REC public relations specialist.
