REC Employees Show Up for Survivors of Domestic Violence

Empty BowlsAt REC, the phrase “connected to our communities” means so much more than providing electricity and the best service possible to all members.

It also means looking for opportunities to give back.

That’s why four REC employees were among hundreds of supporters of Empowerhouse who turned out recently for the annual Empty Bowl fundraiser. The event raises funds for those who have experienced family diff iculties or domestic violence.

Among those attending were Public Relations Specialist Lindsey Edwards; Departmental Assistant Tracy Woods; Director of Member Services and Community Relations Joanie Griff iths; and Departmental Assistant Linette Kasper, for whom the evening was personal.

“I have a close friend who was helped by Empowerhouse,” Kasper said, “so it’s meaningful to me because of what they did for her and how they helped her with her situation. I just wanted to support them so they can continue to help other people.”

At Empowerhouse, she said, “They are doing something to help people who are in these diff icult situations and to give them a resource to find a way out because sometimes it’s hard.”
Her friend didn’t think she and her children would ever escape their difficult situation.

“So for her and her children, it meant so much. With the Empty Bowl fundraiser, it just gives you a good feeling, and being there and seeing all the people wanting to help, it really makes you happy that they are doing something to assist people who are victims of domestic abuse.”

Edwards noted the mission of Empowerhouse connects closely with REC’s core values.

“Our employees truly care about our communities, including the most vulnerable, and we are proud to support Empowerhouse each year by helping to sponsor this important event.”
