REC is First Cooperative to Sign Transportation Electrification Accord
Wednesday | October 24, 2018

REC is proud to announce it has recently signed the Transportation Electrification Accord - an agreement among multiple entities to jointly encourage the advancement of electric vehicles. The Accord outlines principles on how the transportation sector can reduce energy use and pollution through the expanded use of electric vehicles. It also outlines how to advance the use of electric vehicles in a manner that benefits all utility customers while encouraging innovation.

REC is the first electric cooperative to sign the Accord, and pledges to continue to promote and educate the community on the benefits of electric vehicles. Other signatories to the Accord include electric car manufacturers such as GM and Honda, electric vehicle organizations such as the Clean Cities coalitions, charging station companies, environmental interest groups and electric utilities.

“Electrification of transportation has tremendous potential for our members,” said David Koogler, REC’s VP of member services and external affairs. “Our all-electric Chevrolet Bolt has proven to be an extremely popular educational resource at community events.

REC is also a member of Virginia Clean Cities, an alternative fuels membership organization, and participated in several of the 2018 National Drive Electric Week events.

Due to growing interest in electric vehicles by members, REC provides an informational page online at www.myrec.coop/ElectricCar. Employees have presented at several regional seminars to share the essential role electric utilities, such as REC, have in providing electricity for residential and public charging stations.
