REC: Majority of Outages to be Restored by Evening
Thursday | June 23, 2022

REC crews and contractors continue to make repairs and restore service after severe storms yesterday caused widespread destruction.

As of 9 a.m., about 4,500 member-owners remained without power as a result of 165 separate outage events. The storms brought wind gusts of more than 60 mph and torrential downpours.

The storms broke more than 40 poles, and crews continue to find additional damage. Today, mutual aid crews will join REC’s forces to clear trees and restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

REC expects to restore the majority of outages by this evening, but some smaller outages — especially in the Culpeper region — could last longer.

As a reminder, if you receive an alert that your power has been restored but you are still in the dark, please report your outage again at myrec.coop/out, in MyREC SmartHub or by calling 800-552-3904.

For your safety, please consider any downed power line energized and stay at least 10 feet clear of any downed lines and anything that might be in contact with the lines. If you see a downed power line, please call 911 and REC to report it.
