For the third consecutive year, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) has  been recognized as a Top Virginia Employer for Interns by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. This honor reflects REC’s ongoing investment in developing future talent through meaningful, hands-on experiences that prepare students for success in the workforce.

REC was among 161 employers honored statewide as part of the 2026 Top Virginia Employers for Interns Awards. The annual award recognizes Virginia employers that provide exceptional internship experiences through mentorship, leadership engagement, hands-on learning and career development opportunities.

Through its InternConnect program, REC provides students with hands-on experiences across the Cooperative and its affiliates allowing them to contribute to real projects while gaining exposure to careers in the energy industry. In 2026, REC welcomed eight interns who served in the Office of the President, Communications & Public Relations, Finance & Accounting, Human Resources, Vegetation, Clean Energy, and Regulatory Affairs &Compliance.

Interns contribute to projects that support REC's mission of connecting members and communities with safe, reliable, affordable and sustainable energy solutions while gaining experience alongside employees serving communities across the Cooperative's service territory. Since 2020, REC has hosted 26 interns in areas ranging from Human Resources, Cybersecurity, Clean Energy & Energy Solutions and Data Analytics to Communications & Public Relations, Regulatory Affairs & Compliance, Operations and Construction.

“Being recognized as a To Virginia employer for Interns for the third consecutive year reflects our commitment to developing the next generation of professionals,” said Fafa Baker, director — Organizational & Workforce Development, Human Resources. “Through InternConnect, students gain meaningful, real-world experience while contributing to projects that support our members and communities. We are proud to help prepare future leaders and continue building pathways to careers in the energy industry.”
