REC Names Director – Substation & Transmission Engineering and Technical Services

REC has named Mathew L. Anderson as Director – Substation & Transmission Engineering and Technical Services. 

In this role, Anderson will direct the engineering design, specifications, construction and maintenance of the Cooperative’s substations, transmission lines and mobile substations, as well as ensure proper protection of REC’s infrastructure. Anderson is also responsible for the procurement of land, site selection and permitting for substations and acquisition of easements for transmission lines.

“Serving our members with reliable and affordable energy is our main focus,” said Chris Stoia, Managing Director – Engineering & Power Supply. “Mr. Anderson comes to REC with many years of utility and project management experience. His extensive experience in transmission, substation, distribution and utility construction will be key in exceeding our members’ expectations.” 

Prior to coming to REC, Anderson previously held the position of Supervisor, Line and Substation West for Potomac Edison, A First Energy Company.  In that role he supervised maintenance and construction of distribution, transmission and substation facilities in Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia.

Anderson holds a Bachelor's of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Youngstown State University. He is also skilled in programs such as, Cascade, ARCOS and GIS Design, all of which are critical in the design and maintenance of REC’s infrastructure. 

Anderson lives in Winchester, Va. with his wife, Kellie, and their three boys. He volunteers for different school activities for his three sons. He also participates in Wreaths Across America at Arlington National Cemetery with his brother, a Marine Veteran, and sister-in-law, a Navy Veteran.
