REC crews and contractors are responding to storm-related outages after two powerful storms rolled through the region Tuesday evening, bringing with them high winds and significant downpours.
As of 1:30 p.m., just under 600 member-owners remain without power as a result of about 90 separate outage events. The storms caused widespread tree damage, which is hindering access to some damage areas. Crews continue to discover broken poles and downed wires. Mutual aid assistance is arriving today to join the REC personnel in clearing trees and repairing damaged equipment.
“REC expects to restore the majority of the larger outage events by this evening, but some smaller outages — especially in the areas around Culpeper— could last into tomorrow,” said said Casey Hollins, Managing Director - Communications and Public Relations.
As a reminder, if you receive an alert that your power has been restored but you are still without power, please report your outage again at myrec.coop/out, in MyREC SmartHub or by calling 1-800-552-3904.
For your safety, please stay at least 10 feet clear of any downed power line and anything it may be in contact with, and consider the line energized. If you see a downed power line, please call 911 and REC to report it.
