REC Responds to Storm-Related Outages
Saturday | March 12, 2022

REC line crews, contractors and other field personnel are responding to storm-related outages as strong winds, snow, sleet and bands of heavy rain move through parts of the Cooperative’s 22-county service territory.

REC crews and contractors were staged in advance of the potential weather event and rolled out early this morning as the first outages occurred. REC has plenty of materials such as poles, transformers and fuses on hand in the event that they are needed.

Steps you can take now:

  • Bookmark REC’s website to report an outage or to find the latest on restoration efforts. You also can sign up to receive Outage Text Alerts: myrec.coop/outagecenter.
  • Remember that you can use your smart phone to report an outage at myrec.coop/out. You also can report an outage in MyREC SmartHub.

REC urges our member-owners to stay safe as well.

  • If you see a downed power line, always assume it is energized and dangerous. Stay at least 10 feet away from the line and anything that might be in contact with it.
  • Contact REC at 800-552-3904 and call 911 to report downed power lines.
  • Finally, if you haven’t already, unplug appliances that may have been on when the power outage begin. Those appliances will come back on in the same mode as they were when power was lost.

If your backup power plan includes using a generator, it is critical to follow all safety recommendations from the manufacturer.
