REC Restores Service to 55,000-Plus Members
Wednesday | January 5, 2022

REC crews, contractors and mutual-aid workers have restored service to more than 50% percent of member-owners who lost power in the historic Winter Storm Frida.

REC’s efforts returned power to 55,000 member-owners in 55 hours.

“We are proud that the crews, contractors and mutual-aid workers from across the country have already restored power to so many,” said Casey Hollins, Managing Director – Communications and Public Relations. “But we recognize the very real hardship facing those who remain without power. As restoration efforts continue, our thoughts remain with those members who are still without electricity.”

As of Wednesday evening, crews had discovered nearly 100 broken poles, and they expect to find dozens more over the coming days. Each pole can take several hours to replace. They continued to encounter treacherous and in some cases tree-blocked roads as they attempted to reach damage sites.

REC estimates that the majority of outages should be restored by the end of the weekend, with some scattered outages continuing into next week.

Member-owners can track crew work locations on REC’s social media channels and online at myrec.coop.

Staying Safe

Over the next few days, weather forecasts show more snow and dropping temperatures throughout our service territory. REC wants to ensure that all members are aware of warming stations and shelters available. To find a warming station or shelter nearest to you, please visit REC's website, myrec.coop.

As always, safety is RECs top priority, and we encourage members to take care to ensure that they are heating their home safely, especially if using a generator. Learn more at myrec.coop/generatorsafety.
