REC Urges Preparation Ahead of Winter Storm
Friday | January 29, 2021

REC urges member-owners to prepare now for the potential of a winter storm, which is expected to impact much of the state beginning early Sunday.

While major widespread power outages may not occur, REC crews are on standby to respond as needed, and we urge member-owners to also prepare now.

Make sure you have flashlights and fresh batteries. Gather extra blankets and additional layers of clothing in case they are needed, and charge all electronics such as cell phones. For more tips on how to prepare, please visit myrec.coop/stormprep.

Other steps you can take now:

  • Bookmark REC’s website to report an outage or to find the latest on restoration efforts. You also can sign up to receive Outage Text Alerts: myrec.coop/outagecenter.
  • Remember that you can use your smart phone to report an outage at myrec.coop/out. You also can report an outage in MyREC SmartHub.
  • If someone in your home requires electricity for a serious medical condition, identify an alternate location with power that you can rely on during an outage.

“The best time to prepare for a storm is before it occurs,” said Casey Hollins, director of communications and public relations at REC. “By the time the storm arrives, it can quickly become too dangerous to gather needed supplies. Please take steps now to prepare your family for a potential power outage.”
