REC Youth Tour Student Tapped for Prestigious Position
Tuesday | July 2, 2024

While representing REC at the 2024 Youth Tour, Jackson Hunley was selected as the Youth Leadership Council (YLC) representative for Virginia, a significant honor.

Jackson is a rising senior at Massaponax High School in Spotsylvania County.

He was one of four students REC took to the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth Tour in June, where students learned about the power of electric cooperatives and their government—as well as sharpened their leadership skills while connecting with more than 2,000 peers from across the country.

“Getting to connect with and see all of the students from across the country travel to D.C. was inspiring and makes me confident in seeing the strong, robust next generation of leaders,” he said. “I enjoyed getting to learn about the policy work and the community engagement work that electric cooperatives around the country are doing to improve the quality of life in rural areas.”

As a YLC representative, Jackson will get the opportunity to connect with 44 student representatives from other states at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Annual Meeting, PowerXchange, in March 2025.

YLC is a networking opportunity, aimed at building leadership and public speaking skills and enhancing the delegates’ knowledge of the energy industry and cooperative business model.
