What Members Should Know

The Small Generator Interconnection process on REC's system follows the State jurisdictional Regulations Governing Interconnections of Small Electrical Generators and Storage in Chapter 314 of the Virginia Administrative Code.

State jurisdictional interconnection requests are categorized into three separate processes in the regulations.

Interconnection Levels

The appropriate process depends on the size and qualification of the small generating facility.

Level 1

Up to 500 kW

Certified SGF

A request to interconnect a certified small generating facility (SGF) no larger than 500 kilowatts (kW) shall be evaluated under the Level 1 process.

Level 2

Up to 2 MW

Certified SGF

A request to interconnect a certified SGF no larger than 2 MW and not qualifying for the Level 1 process shall be evaluated under the Level 2 process.

Level 3

Other SGFs

Additional Review

A request to interconnect an SGF not qualifying for the Level 1 process or Level 2 process shall be evaluated under the Level 3 process.
