Warm Weather Tips to SAVE on Your Electric Bill
Friday | April 18, 2025

As temperatures rise, so can your energy use. To help stay cool this summer, while managing your energy use, we’ve put together a list of easy and effective tips that will keep you comfortable while keeping your electric bill in check.

While we do our part to keep the cost of power affordable for you, here’s your opportunity to take simple steps to reduce your energy use to save money.

Follow these simple low cost or no cost tips:

Reduce Cooling Costs

  • Set your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher.
  • Avoid placing lamps or other large electronics near your thermostat. That affects the sensor, causing your thermostat to think it’s warmer than it is in the home. As a result, your unit will run more than needed.
  • Run ceiling fans only in occupied rooms. Fans cool people, not rooms.

Seal Air Leaks

  • Use caulk to seal cracks and gaps around doors and windows in your home.
  • Check for leaks around your attic hatch.
  • Check for leaks around ducts, your attic hatch, doors and windows.

Check Your Filters

  • Check your air filters monthly and clean or replace them when dirty. Dirty filters make your AC system work harder.
  • Don’t block the supply or return air vents with furniture or other objects.

Duct Work or Insulation

  • Check (and have a pro check) your AC system’s duct work. There should be 13 inches of insulation in attics and 6 inchesin crawl space floors
