Winter Storm Knocks Out Power for Thousands of REC Members
Wednesday | December 16, 2020

More than 5,000 member-owners of REC  are without power as of 5 p.m., as today’s winter storm continues to drop rain, ice and heavy wet snow throughout much of the state. The outages began to mount around 3:30 p.m. and have continued to climb since then.

Continuing wintry precipitation and gusty winds this evening may lead to additional outages.

REC’s line crews, vegetation management team and contractors are out in force, making repairs and restoring service as quickly and safely as they can. Saturated soil has led to downed trees, which has contributed to the outages, and has made accessing damage sites more challenging.

“Our crews are mobilized and will work through the night until power is restored for all member-owners,” said Casey Hollins, director of communications and public relations.
If you lose power, remember that you can use your smart phone to report an outage at myrec.coop/out. You also can report an outage in MyREC SmartHub

As a safety reminder, if you see a downed power line, please stay clear of it and anything that could be in contact with the line. Always assume a downed line is energized, and call REC to report it.
