Business-Focused Panel Shares Update on Louisa Broadband Project
Wednesday | August 18, 2021

In March, REC announced that it was partnering with Louisa County, Firefly Broadband and Dominion Energy to bring broadband services to the county’s residents and businesses.

With the project under way, the Louisa County Chamber of Commerce hosted a panel discussion to provide local businesses with a progress update and allow them to submit business-related questions.

Peter Muhoro, REC’s Chief Strategy, Technology and Innovation Officer, joined Dominion Energy’s David Walker and Firefly Broadband’s Gary Wood to discuss the project and how it will impact local businesses in Louisa County.

“Last year, we surveyed all of our member-owners to see what they wanted REC to do in terms of broadband,” Muhoro stated. “And overwhelmingly, they said ‘Do something.’ In an effort to meet their needs, the Cooperative has become a facilitator in a variety of partnerships to bridge that digital divide.”

As REC and Firefly continue to define the order of work throughout Louisa County, authorized contractors from Pike Engineering are currently working in the Shannon Hill area. From there, they will move to the area of REC’s Mt. Hope substation off of Route 33 in the eastern end of the county.
