Being involved in the communities they serve is a cornerstone for Rappahannock Electric Cooperative. Today, Janet was in the studio with Casey Hollins, Director of Communications and Public Relations for REC to talk about their community programs. Casey talked about how REC offers grants and scholarships each year to students and service organizations across its 22-county service territory; how members can donate to local charities through REC like Power of Change and Project Big Heart; and, about events REC attends (and hosts) to educate their members on a range of topics.

We learned about Rec’s Youth Tours – where each year, eight students from REC’s service territory travel to Washington, D.C., to explore key issues in the electric industry, study the cooperative business model, interact with students in team- and leadership-building programs, tour historical and cultural sites, meet their members of Congress and attend a show at the Kennedy Center.
