Each year, REC awards Community Grants to local organizations that provide necessary services to those in need. At the end of 2020, six local organizations were awarded funds to serve their community.
“Being able to give back to community organizations, emergency services and educators is at the core of who REC is,” explained Lindsey Edwards, public relations specialist. “Supporting our local communities through these grants allows organizations to continue their mission of improving the world around us.”
The 2020 Community Grant recipients are:
The Salvation Army of Winchester – City of Winchester, Frederick County and Clarke County – received $5,000 to feed those who have suffered financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Doorways – services provided to all of REC’s service area – $5,000 to provide medical lodging services to REC’s community members who must travel overnight to Richmond for prescribed medical care.
Empowerhouse – City of Fredericksburg, and the counties of Caroline, Spotsylvania, Stafford and King George – received $2,000 to support the increased demand for safe shelter and housing for victims of domestic violence and their children due to the pandemic.
