REC Restores Power to 68,000 Members
Thursday | January 6, 2022

As of Thursday evening, REC had restored power to more than 68,000 member who lost power after Winter Storm Frida dumped nearly a foot of heavy wet snow on the region earlier this week.

Despite treacherous conditions and extensive damage, REC has restored power to nearly 70% percent of those affected by the storm. The crews continue to assess damage, make repairs and restore service as quickly and safely as they can.

“The damage that Winter Storm Frida left was historic in terms of the damage it inflicted on the electric grid,” said Casey Hollins, Managing Director – Communications and Public Relations. “We continue to use all resources available to restore power as quickly as we safely can.”

REC is prepared for the wintry weather that is expected to bring three to five inches of snow overnight to many areas. Members who are using a generator should do so carefully. They can find safety tips on the Cooperative’s website - myrec.coop/generatorsafety.

“We understand this is an incredibly difficult time for many families,” Hollins said. “We’ve worked to provide members with updated, easy-to-access information, including a major update to our Outage Map on our website.”

The upgraded outage map allows members to see what outage event is affecting their location. They can use the magnifying glass icon to search their address to find the outage location, which will appear in a polygon. Then click on the icon in the polygon for the latest information on the outage.

REC is updating work stations and providing county-specific updates throughout the day on social media and on the website.
