Rappahannock Electric Cooperative
Community Scholarships

Each year Rappahannock Electric Cooperative offers the REC Community Scholarship program to students who are seeking to advance their career goals by attending a college or a career and technical school. 

Two $2,500 and Fifteen $1,000 scholarships are available.

To apply, the applicant's parent or guardian must be a member-owner of REC and the applicant must be planning to enroll in an accredited educational or training institution. The appropriate scholarship application must be completed by the deadline for the student to be eligible. Recipients are selected based upon their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and letters of recommendation.

High School Senior Scholarships – for current seniors in high school planning to attend a college or university. 

Career & Technical School Scholarships – for students currently seniors in high school planning to attend a career and technical school or students currently enrolled in a career and technical school.

College Student Scholarships – for students currently enrolled in a college or university.

Application Period: The application period for the 2026 REC Community Scholarships closed on February 27, 2026. Students will be notified of their scholarship award status after the review process is complete in April. Scholarships will be presented to students before the end of their school year. 

The 2027 REC Community Scholarships will open in September 2026 and close in February 2027.


2025 REC Communty Scholarship Awards(June 26, 2025) - REC is proud to announce that it has awarded $20,000 in scholarships to 17 outstanding students across its service territory. The Community Scholarship program is part of REC’s continued commitment to supporting education and strengthening the communities it serves.
